How to program a garage door keypad
Press the learn button on the motor unit, then within thirty seconds enter the PIN you want on the keypad and press enter. If nothing happens, the keypad battery is flat — that is the cause far more often than the programming.
What you need
- A stepladder
- A fresh battery for the keypad

What is the default code?
There usually is not one. Most keypads are paired by putting the opener into learn mode and then entering a code you choose, rather than by a factory PIN. If a previous owner left a code on it and you do not know what it is, reset the opener and start again.
It worked and now it does not.
Battery first — a keypad battery lives outdoors and dies faster than a remote's. After that, distance and damp: a keypad on the far side of a wide garage, or one whose seal has gone, is one that works intermittently before it stops.
Can I give somebody a code that expires?
On many newer openers yes, as a temporary or single-use code for a delivery or a visitor. It is worth finding out whether yours does before you give out the code you use every day.
