Home Depot garage doors — what you actually pay
A 16x7 sectional steel door fitted runs about $2,130 – $4,350 wherever you buy it, and $2,630 – $5,350 insulated. The difference between buying it at Home Depot and buying it from a local company is not really the money.

The fitting is subcontracted to a local company you do not choose, the measure and the install are separate visits, and lead times run to weeks in season. The quoted price is usually the door only.
How it works
Buying a garage door from Home Depot
You start either in the aisle or on their site, pick a door from a configurator, and book a measure. Somebody comes out, measures the opening, and the quote firms up afterwards — which is the point in the process where the number usually moves, because the configurator was working from what you typed and the measure is working from the wall. Fitting is booked as a separate visit.
Who actually fits it. Not Home Depot. The installation is subcontracted to a local garage door company, allocated to your postcode rather than chosen by you. That company may well be good — it is a local firm doing what local firms do — but you do not pick it, you do not meet it before the day, and you cannot look up its reviews before you commit.
What the price covers. Read the quote for whether it is the door or the job. The headline figure in a configurator is frequently the door alone, with fitting, the haul-away of the old door, and any framing work added afterwards. None of that is hidden — it is just not in the number that made you click.

If something goes wrong
You have two parties: the retailer who sold it and the contractor who fitted it. That is a strength when the door itself is faulty, because a national chain replaces a faulty product without argument. It is a weakness when the fault is the fitting, because the two can each reasonably point at the other.
Verdict
Who Home Depot is right for
Somebody who wants to see doors in person, wants financing on the spot, and is replacing like with like on a standard opening. The range you can stand in front of is genuinely the widest, and for a straightforward 16x7 swap that matters more than anything else here.

The number to compare is the INSTALLED price with the old door taken away, not the price on the tag. A door that is $200 cheaper and $300 to haul the old one is not cheaper.
